Tips on choosing a watchposted on 9 March 2009Tips on choosing a watch A watch is one of those accessories that combines beauty with functionality - in fact, it is one of the few pieces of jewellery that few people can do without! Whatever your reasons for owning and wearing a watch, it pays to think about what you are looking for before you invest in one. Some people are looking for a timepiece which purely gives them accurate time - and certain ranges are designed to be ultra accurate for a lifetime of prompt timekeeping! Others are looking for watches which are beautiful antique or jewelled pieces - made from the finest metals and embellished with classic or ornate stones and designs -watches like this are generally reserved for special occasions, or to set off a special outfit. Some may even be antique pocket watches - reserved for very special occasions, or more for antique or show value within the home. Then there`s sports specific watches - those which can be used for scuba diving or watersports, or which can withstand more wear and tear than the average model.... and of course there`s a huge range in between of general fashion watches - many of them made by your favourite high street and designer brands, available at all possible prices, and designed to be worn for both everyday outfits or to bling up a party outfit! Other things to consider when buying a watch are whether you want a battery run watch or manual wind-up style. Some high tech watches even recharge themselves from kinesthetic arm movements! Also think about whether you`re looking for a gold or metal wrist-strap (watch out for nickel versions which can cause allergic reactions though), or perhaps a leather or material strap. The benefits of the latter are that they tend to be cheaper than gold or silver straps, and are instant to adjust to your wrist. However they may not last particularly long and will need replacing over time. To care for your watch, have it gently cleaned from time to time by a soft cloth, to remove any dirt within the casing. Avoid scratching the face by removing fancier watches when you don`t need to wear them - for example, keep an everyday version for working in the garden or working out at the gym. Finally don`t expose your watch to extreme temperatures, steam or water - most watches are water resistant, but won`t appreciate being dunked in the washing up tub or swimming pool. There are a lot of specialist retailers available if you are seeking a specialist, designer, antique or technical sports or scuba diving watch - or for more everyday fashion and general sport watches, a wide range of stores stock watches and timepieces at all possible prices. You might wish to look online to see what the latest looks, styles and features are - then there`s also good discount voucher codes available online too if you`re looking to snap up a bargain! |
